ABOUT ME


My name is Tammy Sheppard, and I founded Sheppard Solutions to help business leaders proactively manage destructive conflict and restore respectful, effective working relationships among team members. I utilize my skills as an accredited professional coach, qualified mediator, certified EQ and TKI Assessor, experienced facilitator, and seasoned Human Resources professional to fully assist organizations with their unique workplace challenges. I am also passionate about mental health and suicide intervention and am a certified ASIST trainer.

My goal is to help teams recover and learn from destructive conflict while gaining the confidence and skills to manage conflict and maintain respectful working relationships.  I help organizations create respectful workplace cultures where incidents of incivility and harassment are dealt with efficiently and effectively to protect employees from further physical or psychological harm.  The individuals and teams who have been impacted by incivility, bullying or harassment, often require a subsequent intervention following a prolonged conflict or investigation. While the workplace investigation is necessary to determine what happened and who may be at fault on the balance of probabilities, it does not resolve the underlying workplace issues or damage to affected working relationships. In fact, the destructive conflict, incivility and negative impact on overall well-being, often remain or resurface. My workplace restoration process helps rebuild trust and respect using strategies that promote psychological flexibility and safety. 

As a result of appropriate pre- and post-conflict interventions, organizations experience more productivity, restored working relationships, increased morale, and less turnover, absenteeism, and presenteeism. Managers spend less of their time dealing with unresolved interpersonal issues, and teams work together more cohesively and productively.

The ladder in my company logo represents steps for managing reactions and decisions in response to conflict and was inspired by the 'Ladder of Inference' model developed by Chris Argyris. The basic premise is that people often jump to conclusions based on incorrect assumptions, judgements, and beliefs and react too quickly before considering all the facts and possibilities. Evaluating each of these steps on the ladder before reacting helps people reconsider their faulty thinking and explore all of their options so they can make better decisions in stressful situations.
